The pattern in this piece — Amazon's old model of building “without new power plants” on coal-era grid capacity, until the math stopped working — is why the 17.5 GW of new gas matters: firm power is now something Amazon has to cause to exist. The same headline-versus-schedule gap shows up in its backup layer. Generac's Amazon deal was announced around an $8 billion headline, but the SEC filing schedules only $2.4 billion of deliveries across 2027–28; the rest is a ceiling, with warrants that vest as Amazon actually spends. Entergy's $3.4 billion for 2.3 GW in Mississippi is concrete by comparison — a named utility, a named spend, a named capacity.
