A new way to track California clean energy development
In our latest product update, we added hundreds of California clean energy projects to the Cleanview platform
I'm excited to announce that after reading through 1,000+ public documents, we're now tracking 100% of planned clean energy projects in CAISO.
California is one the largest clean energy markets in the US. As of writing, there are just over 900 planned solar, wind, and battery projects expected to come online over the next decade.
But tracking all these projects is no easy task.
Over the last few months, our team of researchers at Cleanview parsed through spreadsheets, county permit documents, interconnection agreements, and other public data sources.
Now, in Cleanview you can track every project and developer in the state.
Here are some ways that I’ve been using the platform to track clean energy development in the Golden State:
Pairing CAISO’s data with a dataset from EIA, we can plot hundreds of planned projects on a map.
Maps are cool, but what if we want to see the top clean energy developers in California based on capacity or number of projects? Our developer benchmark tool makes that easy. You can do what might take an analyst a couple of weeks in just a couple clicks.
You can also use the platform to track project timelines. Recently I used this feature to see how many California clean energy projects are at risk of an IRA repeal. As the data visualization below illustrates, there’s a lot of project risk in California.
Next week, we're planning to reach 100% coverage in PJM, MISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE, and every other major clean energy market in the US. More on that soon!
